frequently asked questions

How did you come up with the idea to make compostable dresses?

Japanese newspaper inspired me. No, really! I had seen a picture on Instagram of a newspaper in Japan that has seeds “built in” it and they grow when you throw the newspaper out. That had me thinking… what if I put seeds into a dress. Textile pollution is an extreme problem… how about creating clothes that you can bury underground and it will break down and turn into flowers. But, of course, creating a fabric with seeds in it is simply not possible, because clothes needs to be washed and that would ruin the seeds.

That is how I got the idea of creating compostable dresses that can be composted or “planted” under soil and flowers can be grown on top of it. I called it – From a DRESS to a ROSE.

How long have you been working on it?

I got the idea in June 2020 and I’ve been working on it since then, launching the 1st collection on 27th September.

If they are compostable, how they hold up over time?

We use organic cotton and linen which are both durable fabrics (especially, linen). The only specific is the dyeing process in which plant-based dyes are used. This creates a unique colours and there are a few specifics to keep in mind when washing the dresses. Learn more about Caring & Washing HERE
